The PV Precision for Precision Optical Coatings

The PV Precision is a compact optical coating system with a vacuum load lock for fast cycle times. The system is equipped with two magnetrons with true high and low index target materials to produce high quality multilayer coatings. High index materials available include zirconia and niobia. The PV Precision is ideal for coating process development, small batch production and micro-optics.

The PV Precision uses a patented reactive magnetron sputtering process to produce dense optical coatings with outstanding adhesion and durability. Coatings can be applied to mineral, glass, silicon and germanium substrates as well as to a variety of plastics including CR39, polycarbonate and PMMA.

The machine is compact and highly automated. It is easy to use and staff need only a few hours training. The machine is addressed via a simple keypad display. Once the substrates are loaded, subsequent operation is completely automatic. It employs a vacuum load lock to maximise throughput and minimise maintenance. An “Engineering Level” software platform is accessible through the system computer that provides full control over all process parameters such as gas flows, power to the magnetron, coating time, number of layers etc etc

Substrates are mounted on a vertical carrier which has six positions for 80mm diameter substrates or four positions for 105mm diameter substrates. Special fixturing can be supplied for particular substrates and applications. A rotating substrate holder is available for highest uniformity.

Applications include broadband anti-reflection coatings, lighting filters, transparent conducting oxides, mirror coatings, notch filters etc…..
